The Madoors USA MDRS-AEEST-9000 is a patented, world-unique crane-mounted X-ray backscatter container scanning system that couples directly to harbor port cranes — scanning containers using backscatter technology as the crane operates, before the container is loaded onto a ship or truck, providing 100% secure container scanning at container loading areas, port transport areas, and customs checkpoints without interrupting the normal crane operation cycle. The patent for this scanning system belongs to Madoors USA — the project and R&D designs are proprietary, with a worldwide patent examination application filed with the Patent Institute — making the MDRS-AEEST-9000 the only crane-integrated X-ray container scanning system of its type available globally.
The system produces its own electricity through an integrated generator — requiring no feeder cables or external power supply from the crane or port infrastructure — and transmits scanned images wirelessly to the remote operator monitoring station. All mechanical components are hot-dip galvanized with Jotun epoxy salt-weather-resistant ship primer and epoxy polyurethane top coat for long-term corrosion resistance in the marine port environment.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The MDRS-AEEST-9000 system is mounted on the port crane structure and travels on rails alongside the container during the scanning process — moving back and forth along the container length while the crane holds the container in position, providing complete backscatter X-ray coverage of the entire container exterior and penetrating into the interior to detect concealed substances.
The system's self-contained power generation eliminates the need for external electrical supply from the crane or port infrastructure — the integrated generator produces all power required for the X-ray source, flat panel camera sensors, computer system, PLC control, and wireless communications. UPS power supply and battery kits provide continued operation during generator interruption events.
Scanning is initiated by the operator through the wireless remote start and stop control system. The scan image is transmitted wirelessly from the MDRS-AEEST-9000 to the remote monitoring station — the operator reviews the complete container scan image and assesses for prohibited substances before the loading sequence continues.
Detection targets include explosives, weapons, ammunition, antiques and historical artifacts, pharmaceuticals, narcotics, tobacco products, and any other prohibited or undeclared substances concealed in stashed areas within the container.
All enclosures — PC cabinet, X-ray beam source cabinet, and UPS/battery storage cabinet — are manufactured from ST 37 steel with IP65 ingress protection rating, providing complete protection against dust and water ingress in the outdoor marine port environment. Mechanical components are hot-dip coated and painted with Jotun salty weather-resistant ship-type epoxy primer and epoxy polyurethane topcoat for the corrosive salt-air environment of harbor and port installations.
KEY FEATURES
World-Unique Patented Crane-Coupled Technology
The MDRS-AEEST-9000 is the only X-ray container scanning system in the world that couples directly to the port crane and scans the container as part of the crane operation cycle — the patent belongs to Madoors USA with a worldwide patent examination application filed. This unique crane-integration approach eliminates the requirement for a separate, dedicated scanning portal through which containers must pass — instead, the scanning occurs at the point where the crane is already handling the container, with no additional container movement or handling required for the inspection.
100% Container Scanning — Pre-Loading Detection
The crane-integrated scanning approach enables 100% container inspection before loading onto a ship or truck — every container handled by the equipped crane is scanned as it is lifted, with no containers bypassing the inspection through alternative handling routes. This 100% inspection rate is the fundamental security advantage of the crane-integrated approach over portal scanning systems that require containers to be routed through a separate inspection point — providing complete coverage without the selection and routing logistics of a separate inspection lane.
Backscatter Technology — Concealed Substance Detection
The X-ray backscatter technology provides the container interior imaging required for detection of substances concealed in stashed areas within the container — under false floors, behind false walls, within legitimate cargo packaging, and in structural voids of the container itself. Backscatter imaging is specifically effective for detecting organic materials — drugs, tobacco, human beings — as well as metallic weapons and ammunition — providing comprehensive detection coverage across all major smuggling and security threat categories.
Self-Powered — No External Cables Required
The integrated generator eliminates the requirement for any feeder cables or external power supply connections to the crane or port electrical infrastructure — the MDRS-AEEST-9000 operates as a completely self-sufficient unit carrying all required power generation capability within its own structure. This cable-free self-powered design is the practical enabler of crane coupling — a system requiring external power cables would create operational complications and safety hazards in the dynamic operating environment of an active port crane.
Wireless Image Transmission — Remote Operator Monitoring
The Access Point wireless image transmission system transmits the scanned container image to the remote monitoring station operator in real time — the operator views the complete container scan on the remote monitoring station and makes the threat assessment without requiring physical presence at the crane or container position. Wireless start and stop control allows the operator to manage the scanning process remotely — initiating and completing scans from the monitoring station without manual crane-side intervention.
IP65 All-Weather Enclosures — Marine Corrosion Resistance
All electrical and electronic enclosures are manufactured from ST 37 steel with IP65 ingress protection — providing complete protection against the dust, water spray, and humidity of the outdoor port environment. Hot-dip galvanization of all mechanical components with Jotun salty weather-resistant ship-type epoxy primer and epoxy polyurethane topcoat provides the corrosion resistance required for long-term operation in the salt-air environment of harbor and marine port installations — the most corrosive outdoor environment for steel structures.
Rail Movement — Complete Container Coverage
The rail movement system moves the X-ray scanning unit back and forth along the container length — providing complete scanning coverage of the full container from one end to the other without gaps or uninspected zones. The rail-guided movement ensures consistent scan geometry and detector-to-container distance throughout the full scan, providing uniform image quality across the complete container surface.
PLC Control — Automated Scan Sequencing
The PLC control board manages the automated scan sequencing — initiating the rail movement, controlling the X-ray source, managing the camera sensor data capture, and coordinating the wireless transmission of the completed scan image. PLC automation ensures consistent, repeatable scan execution without depending on manual operator timing and reduces the operator workload at the scanning position.
Pre-Loading Inspection — Prohibited Substance Detection
The scanning occurs before the container is loaded onto the ship or truck transport — providing the customs and port security authority with actionable intelligence about the container contents before the container leaves the port and enters international transit. Pre-loading detection is the most operationally effective point for contraband interception — after loading, interdiction requires the ship or truck to be stopped and the container offloaded, multiplying the cost and operational complexity of the response.
