The Madoors USA Recoverable Unit Gabion Basket Defence Wall Barrier — Recyclable Kumkoy — is a fully reusable and relocatable sand-filled gabion basket defence wall system that can be easily dismantled when no longer required at one location, emptied of fill material without damaging the geotextile fabric, springs, or wire mesh structure, and reinstalled at a new location. Logically identical to the standard Madoors USA Kumkoy gabion defence wall systems in construction and protection performance, the Recoverable Unit differs only in its disassembly engineering — two extra half pieces of geotextile fabric per cell and four extra springs per cell connected by a galvanized steel stud and rod provide the mechanical release mechanism that allows the fill material to be emptied and the unit to be separated without destructive disassembly. Mass-producible in the same dimensions as all standard Kumkoy series units for full system compatibility.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The Recoverable Kumkoy unit uses the same galvanized steel wire mesh outer basket construction, geotextile fabric lining, and sand or granular fill protection principle as the standard Kumkoy gabion defence wall — providing the same ballistic and blast protection performance in the deployed configuration. The engineering difference that enables recovery without damage is in the internal geotextile and spring configuration.
Standard Kumkoy units use a single geotextile fabric lining that retains fill material permanently within the basket — fill cannot be removed without cutting or damaging the fabric. The Recoverable unit incorporates two extra half pieces of geotextile fabric per cell in addition to the standard lining — these extra fabric pieces provide the release surfaces that allow the fill material to be directed out of the cell during disassembly without tearing or damaging the primary geotextile structure.
Standard Kumkoy units use springs at the cell connections to maintain basket geometry under fill pressure. The Recoverable unit adds four extra springs per cell connected by a galvanized steel stud and rod — the disassembly procedure involves removing the galvanized steel rod and stud, separating the extra springs from each other, and releasing the cell geometry to allow fill material to flow out. After fill removal, the springs, rod, and geotextile fabric are all intact and reusable for reassembly at the new location.
Compatible with all standard Kumkoy filling materials — earth, sand, gravel, crushed rock, and other granular materials available in the field environment.
KEY FEATURES
Fully Reusable — No Component Damage on Disassembly
The critical performance requirement of the Recoverable Kumkoy unit is that all structural components — geotextile fabric, springs, and wire mesh — are undamaged during the disassembly process. The extra geotextile fabric pieces and extra springs are specifically engineered to absorb the mechanical stress of disassembly — leaving the primary fabric, spring, and mesh components intact and immediately reusable for the next installation. This no-damage disassembly performance distinguishes the Recoverable unit from standard gabion systems where recovery requires cutting, tearing, or destructive separation of the fill-saturated fabric.
Two Extra Geotextile Half Pieces Per Cell — Easy Fill Removal
The two extra half pieces of geotextile fabric per cell create the release interface that directs fill material out of the unit during disassembly — without requiring the operator to cut or tear the primary geotextile lining. This fabric release mechanism is the engineering innovation that makes fill removal practical in the field without tools and without damaging the fabric that would otherwise need to be replaced before the unit can be reinstalled. Intact fabric after recovery means the unit reinstalls at the new location with the same containment performance as the original installation.
Four Extra Springs & Galvanized Steel Rod — Release Mechanism
The four extra springs per cell connected by the galvanized steel stud and rod provide the controlled release of basket geometry during disassembly — removing the rod and separating the springs allows the basket to release its compressed geometry and the fill material to flow free. After fill removal and geometry release, the springs and rod are collected and reused in the reassembly at the new location. The galvanized steel rod and stud maintain the same corrosion resistance as all Madoors USA galvanized Kumkoy components — protecting the release mechanism components throughout repeated deployment and recovery cycles.
Relocatable Asset — Cost Efficiency for Temporary Installations
The recoverable design transforms the gabion defence wall from a consumable installation — used once and abandoned or demolished — into a relocatable asset that retains its full value after each deployment. For temporary military deployments, exercises, event security, and temporary critical infrastructure protection where the defence wall is needed for a defined period before the position is vacated, the recoverable unit eliminates the replacement cost of standard gabion units that must be abandoned or demolished at position closure.
Same Dimensions as Standard Kumkoy — Full System Compatibility
Mass-production in the same dimensions as all standard Kumkoy series units allows recoverable and standard units to be combined in the same defence wall installation — permanent sections built from standard units, temporary sections from recoverable units — and ensures that recoverable units integrate seamlessly with all existing Madoors USA Kumkoy defence wall, guard booth, tower, and bunker configurations without dimensional incompatibility.
Military-Grade Construction — All Fill Materials Compatible
The military-grade galvanized wire mesh, geotextile fabric, and spring construction maintains the protection performance and structural integrity required for operational military defence wall applications — the extra components added for recovery capability do not reduce the ballistic or blast protection of the deployed wall. All standard Kumkoy fill materials are compatible — earth, sand, gravel, crushed rock, and all granular materials available in the field environment.
DISASSEMBLY & RECOVERY SEQUENCE
Position Vacated & Recovery Decision
The defence wall position is no longer required. Recovery of Recoverable Kumkoy units is decided for redeployment at a new location.
Galvanized Steel Rod & Stud Removal
The galvanized steel connecting rod and stud are removed from the extra spring assembly in each cell — releasing the controlled hold on basket geometry. No tools are required for this release operation in standard field conditions.
Spring Separation
The four extra springs per cell are separated from each other following rod removal — allowing the basket geometry to release progressively as fill material pressure is reduced.
Fill Material Emptying
The extra geotextile half pieces direct the fill material — sand, earth, or gravel — out of the cell as the basket geometry releases. Fill material is deposited at the current position or collected for transport to the new position where local fill is not available.
Component Collection
All springs, rods, studs, geotextile fabric pieces, and wire mesh basket components are collected and packed for transport to the new deployment location. No components are damaged — all are immediately available for reinstallation.
Transport to New Location
All collected components are transported to the new deployment location by vehicle, aircraft, or helicopter — the same transport methods as initial deployment.
Reinstallation at New Location
Geotextile fabric is repositioned within the wire mesh basket. Extra fabric half pieces are arranged for the next recovery cycle. Extra springs are connected by the galvanized rod and stud. Fill material from local environment or transported fill is placed in the cells. The defence wall is reinstalled and immediately operational.
