The Madoors USA M50 and M30 PAS 68 Crash Test Automatic Rising Bollard is an independently impact-tested, automatically retractable vehicle security barrier certified to PAS 68 — the industry-standard specification that identifies impact test methods, tolerances, test vehicle type, and performance criteria for vehicle security barriers — providing clients with verified assurance that the bollard will deliver the highest levels of physical protection against a potentially hostile vehicular attack at the specified M50 or M30 impact rating. Designed for high-security vehicle entrances at army, industrial, government, and commercial buildings and streets closed to vehicle traffic during specified hours, the Madoors USA PAS 68 rising bollard is available in High Security and Commercial height configurations with identical structural specifications — differing only in above-ground blocking height — with a standard 3-second raise and lower time reducible to 1.5 seconds and Finite Element Analysis available on request.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
PAS 68 is the UK Publicly Available Specification for vehicle security barriers, internationally adopted as the benchmark crash test standard for hostile vehicle mitigation products. PAS 68 specifies the essential impact performance requirement for automatic rising bollards and the test method for rating performance when subjected to a single impact by a test vehicle — not driven by a human — at the specified vehicle mass, speed, and approach angle. PAS 68 certification provides independently verified documentation that the bollard meets the required physical impact resistance for the specific M50 or M30 rating.
M50 certification confirms the bollard stops a vehicle of the specified test mass traveling at 50 mph (80 km/h). M30 certification confirms equivalent performance at 30 mph (48 km/h). Both ratings are independently verified through physical crash testing and documented with PAS 68 test certification.
Madoors USA PAS 68 rising bollards are available in High Security and Commercial configurations. Both configurations share identical structural specifications — bollard wall thickness, underground construction depth, self-lubricating sealing and guide ring in special plastic materials, hydraulic piston specification, flange thicknesses and diameters, hydraulic connections, and installation and drainage procedures are all the same between the two configurations. The only difference is the above-ground blocking height — High Security bollards are taller than Commercial bollards. This shared structural specification means that Commercial bollards provide the same certified PAS 68 impact resistance as High Security bollards at the same M50 or M30 rating, with the shorter blocking height suited to commercial and lower-profile applications.
Standard raise and lower time is 3 seconds, with the system designable for 1.5-second emergency operation. Finite element analysis is available on request for engineering compliance and procurement documentation.
KEY FEATURES
PAS 68 Independent Crash Test Certification — M50 & M30
The PAS 68 crash test certification provides the highest available independent assurance of bollard impact performance — with testing conducted by an accredited test facility against the PAS 68 specification using a test vehicle not driven by a human, at the specified mass, speed, and angle of approach. M50 and M30 ratings cover the full range of hostile vehicle attack scenarios from standard vehicle speeds at M30 through to high-speed ram attacks at M50, providing the appropriate certified protection level for each specific threat assessment.
Industry-Recognized VSB Performance Standard
PAS 68 is the internationally recognized industry standard for vehicle security barrier impact testing — accepted by government, military, and institutional procurement authorities across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and internationally as the benchmark certification for hostile vehicle mitigation products. PAS 68 certification satisfies the security specification requirements of the most demanding government and defense procurement processes without requiring additional project-specific testing.
High Security & Commercial Configurations — Same Structural Specification
The identical structural specification shared between High Security and Commercial bollard configurations ensures that both deliver the same certified PAS 68 impact resistance — with Commercial bollards providing the same crash-rated stopping performance in a shorter above-ground profile suited to lower-profile commercial and institutional applications where the full blocking height of the High Security configuration is not required by the threat assessment or the architectural context. Clients can specify Commercial bollards with confidence that the PAS 68 certification applies equally to the shorter configuration.
Self-Lubricating Sealing & Guide Ring — Special Plastic Materials
The underground guide system uses self-lubricating sealing and guide rings manufactured from special plastic materials — providing long-term, low-friction bollard travel throughout the full service life of the installation without requiring periodic lubrication access to the below-grade sliding components. Self-lubricating performance eliminates one of the primary causes of automatic bollard operational degradation in outdoor installations — guide friction increase from inadequate lubrication — extending reliable operational performance across the full service life.
3-Second Standard — 1.5-Second Emergency Raise
Standard 3-second raise and lower cycle time provides fast, responsive bollard deployment for normal high-traffic access control. The 1.5-second emergency option delivers the fastest available bollard deployment response for immediate threat scenarios — minimizing the time between threat identification and physical vehicle barrier deployment at the highest-risk access control positions.
Hydraulic Piston Drive — Consistent Force Output
The hydraulic piston drive system delivers consistent, high-force bollard actuation across the full range of ambient temperature and contamination conditions encountered at outdoor security installations — providing reliable raise and lower performance across seasonal temperature extremes, precipitation, and ground contamination without the performance variation that affects electromechanical drive systems under the same environmental conditions.
Identical Underground Construction — High Security & Commercial
The underground construction specification — excavation depth, concrete foundation, hydraulic cylinder housing, drainage, and flange anchorage — is identical between the High Security and Commercial configurations, simplifying the procurement, installation, and maintenance programs for mixed-configuration bollard installations where both High Security and Commercial bollards are specified at different positions within the same perimeter.
Drainage Integration — All-Weather Reliability
Drainage provisions are incorporated in the underground installation design — preventing water accumulation in the bollard vault that would impair travel, damage hydraulic components, or cause freezing in cold climate installations. Drainage integration is a standard design feature for all Madoors USA PAS 68 rising bollard installations.
Finite Element Analysis — Available on Request
Finite element analysis documentation is available on request for engineering compliance, security case submission, and procurement documentation — providing mathematical verification of the bollard's structural performance under the PAS 68 impact loading conditions in addition to the physical crash test certification.
PAS 68 STANDARD EXPLANATION
PAS 68 is the UK Publicly Available Specification for vehicle security barriers, published by the British Standards Institution and widely adopted internationally as the benchmark crash test certification standard for hostile vehicle mitigation products including rising bollards, road blockers, gates, and beam barriers.
PAS 68 specifies the essential impact performance requirement for a vehicle security barrier and defines the test method for rating its performance when subjected to a single impact by a test vehicle — with the test vehicle not driven by a human being — at the specified vehicle mass, speed, and approach angle. The specification identifies the impact test methods, dimensional and installation tolerances, test vehicle type, and performance criteria that must be met for a product to carry the PAS 68 designation at a specific rating.
PAS 68 ratings are expressed as a combination of vehicle classification, vehicle mass, impact speed, angle of approach, and bollard penetration performance — providing a complete description of the test conditions under which the certified performance was achieved. This complete description allows security engineers and procurement authorities to confirm that the certified test conditions match the specific hostile vehicle threat scenario at the facility being protected.
ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION SEQUENCE
Site Survey & Rating Selection
Bollard positions, required PAS 68 rating — M50 or M30 — configuration selection — High Security or Commercial height — hydraulic supply arrangement, control system interface, and access control device specifications are confirmed. Finite element analysis requirement for procurement documentation is confirmed.
Foundation Excavation & Drainage
Excavation is completed at each bollard position to the specified underground construction depth. Drainage channel and outlet routing are constructed within the pit. Hydraulic supply line conduits and electrical wiring conduits are installed between the bollard pit and the hydraulic power unit cabinet position.
