The Madoors USA Madoorsscan M-5800 Gantry Portal X-Ray Inspection System is a state-of-the-art dual-energy, bi-directional rail-mounted gantry scanner capable of inspecting up to 28 trucks per hour — scanning two trucks per scan pass across 54.86 meters of rail — for contraband, explosives, narcotics, weapons, and cargo manifest compliance verification at ports, borders, military bases, and security checkpoints. With a 6 MeV X-ray source, four-color material discrimination — organics in orange, non-organics in green, metallics in blue, and heavy metals in purple — best-in-class high-resolution imaging through unique scatter-minimizing design, and a large scan tunnel accommodating vehicles up to 5 meters tall, the M-5800 Gantry provides the most comprehensive non-intrusive vehicle and cargo inspection capability available for high-throughput commercial freight and security checkpoint applications.
Unlike drive-through portal systems where the vehicle moves through a stationary scanner, the M-5800 Gantry system is mounted on rails — the vehicle is parked, the driver exits the cabin, and the entire X-ray screening system moves along its rails passing by and over the stationary target vehicle, scanning from side and overhead simultaneously to produce a complete vehicle image.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
System dimensions: Width 11.1 meters, Height 7.7 meters, Length 5.3 meters — the large structural format accommodates the full dimensions of articulated trucks and semi-trailers. Scan tunnel height: accommodates vehicles up to 5 meters tall — covering the full range of standard and oversized truck and trailer configurations.
X-ray source: 6 MeV — the same high-energy accelerator technology as the M-5800 Rail type, providing sufficient penetration for the densest cargo loads and heaviest metallic container walls. Scan speed: variable at 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4 m/s — equivalent to 8, 12, and 16 inches per second — selectable based on the required image quality and throughput rate balance for each specific checkpoint application.
Throughput: 28 trucks per hour using 54.86 meters of rail and scanning two trucks per scan pass. The bi-directional capability — scanning in both the forward and return rail travel directions — doubles the productive scan time of each gantry travel cycle, with one truck scanned on the forward pass and a second truck scanned on the return pass.
Dual-energy imaging provides material discrimination through four color categories — organics displayed in orange for identification of explosives, drugs, tobacco, and concealed persons, non-organics in green, metallics in blue for weapons and metal contraband, and heavy metals in purple for dense metallic objects including weapons components and shielded containers. The unique scatter-minimizing design creates best-in-class high-resolution X-ray images from even the most densely loaded containers — where cargo density in adjacent areas would normally degrade image quality through X-ray scatter.
KEY FEATURES
Rail-Mounted Gantry — System Moves Over Stationary Vehicle
The rail-mounted gantry design — where the complete X-ray system travels along the rail while the truck is stationary — provides the most comprehensive scanning geometry for truck and trailer inspection. The gantry passes by the sides and over the roof of the vehicle simultaneously, capturing both lateral and overhead X-ray images in a single continuous scan pass. This simultaneous multi-angle imaging reveals concealed cargo in both the side walls and the roof space of the trailer that side-only or overhead-only scanning systems would miss individually.
28 Trucks Per Hour — Two Trucks Per Scan
The bi-directional scanning capability — one truck scanned on the forward rail travel and a second truck scanned on the return — maximizes the productive use of each complete gantry rail travel cycle. With 28 trucks per hour throughput across 54.86 meters of rail, the M-5800 Gantry provides the highest available inspection rate for rail-mounted gantry vehicle scanning systems — suitable for the busiest commercial border crossings and port truck terminals where uninspected vehicle throughput creates both security gaps and commercial delays.
Four-Color Material Discrimination — Operator Clarity
The four-color material classification — orange for organics, green for non-organics, blue for metallics, and purple for heavy metals — provides the operator with immediate visual categorization of all cargo within the container in a single color-coded image. The four-category system provides more discrimination than the two-category organic/inorganic system of standard dual-energy scanners — the separation of metallics from heavy metals allows dense metallic objects like lead shielding and heavy weapons components to be immediately distinguished from standard metallic cargo by color alone, reducing analysis time and improving detection accuracy.
Scatter-Minimizing Design — Best-in-Class Image Quality
The unique scatter-minimizing design reduces X-ray scatter from dense cargo sections — maintaining high-resolution image quality throughout the full container cross-section including the most densely packed areas where conventional systems suffer image quality degradation from scatter noise. This scatter reduction capability directly improves detection performance in the most challenging cargo configurations — densely packed mixed cargo that generates high scatter levels is precisely where contraband is most likely to be concealed, making scatter control in dense cargo the critical image quality requirement for effective threat detection.
5-Meter Tunnel Height — All Vehicle Types
The 5-meter scan tunnel height accommodates the full range of standard and oversized truck and trailer configurations — from standard curtain-sided trailers through to high-cube containers and specialized oversized cargo vehicles. This maximum height coverage ensures that no vehicle type is excluded from inspection at the M-5800 Gantry checkpoint due to height clearance limitations.
6 MeV Dual-Energy — Dense Cargo Penetration
The 6 MeV dual-energy source provides both the penetration power required for the densest cargo loads and the material discrimination information required for the four-color classification. Dual-energy operation — simultaneously or alternately irradiating at two energy levels and comparing the differential attenuation — provides the atomic number information that drives the four-color material classification without requiring a second scan pass.
Ports, Borders, Military Bases & Security Checkpoints
The M-5800 Gantry is specifically identified as ideal for ports, borders, military bases, and security checkpoints — the four primary application environments where truck and cargo inspection at commercial freight throughput rates is both a security requirement and an operational necessity. Each application environment has specific inspection priorities — ports focus on cargo manifest compliance and smuggling, borders focus on all contraband and threat categories, military bases focus on explosive and weapon threats, and security checkpoints focus on all threat categories with emphasis on vehicle-borne attack risk.
COMPARISON: M-5800 GANTRY vs M-5800 RAIL TYPE
The M-5800 is available in two configurations addressing different inspection scenarios.
M-5800 Gantry Portal — The gantry system moves on rails over the stationary vehicle. Driver exits cabin. Best-in-class scatter-minimizing high-resolution imaging. Four-color material discrimination. Simultaneous side and overhead scan. 28 trucks per hour — two trucks per bi-directional scan. 5-meter tunnel height. Ideal for ports and border crossings with space for rail infrastructure.
M-5800 Rail Type — The train or vehicle passes through a stationary portal at low speed. Drive-through without stopping. 300 containers per 10 minutes for rail cargo. Customs EDI integration. Interlaced 4/6/9 MeV energy options. Side-view separate wagon images. Ideal for rail cargo inspection at border crossing and port rail terminals.
