The Madoors USA Gabion Basket Barrier is a collapsible wire mesh sand barrier system — manufactured in USA and exported worldwide — providing military fortification, flood control, border security, and counter-terrorism perimeter protection in a rapidly deployable, cost-effective, bulletproof, and explosion-proof barrier configuration. Originally designed for beach and marsh erosion and flood control, the gabion basket barrier became one of the most widely used military force protection systems globally from the 1990s onward — deployed extensively in Iraq, Afghanistan, and military operations worldwide — because of its combination of superior ballistic and blast protection, simple field deployment, low cost, and complete absence of secondary concrete fragmentation during explosion events.
Manufactured with 4mm galvanized stainless steel wire mesh, 4mm galvanized stainless steel spring connectors, and UV-protected brown geotextile fabric at 160–180 g/m², in standard 120 × 120 cm dimensions with a sand capacity of 2 to 2.5 tons per unit, the Madoors USA gabion basket barrier system is guaranteed for 2 years and available in custom sizes for project-specific requirements.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The Madoors USA Gabion Basket Barrier consists of three primary components — the metal wire mesh container, the geotextile fabric liner, and the sand fill — each engineered to specific performance standards for long-term military and flood control deployment.
Wire Properties: Wire type is stainless galvanized steel. Wire thickness is 4mm. Wire mesh opening is 70 × 70mm. No corrosion is possible due to full galvanization of all wire and connection components.
Spring Properties: Spring type is stainless galvanized steel. Spring thickness is 4mm. Spring height is 120cm. Springs connect adjacent accordion basket panels and allow the basket to expand from collapsed transport configuration to full deployed dimensions in the field.
Fabric Properties: Fabric type is special UV-protected brown geotextile fabric. Fabric unit weight is 160 to 180 grams per square meter. The fabric is water and moisture resistant, drains water and moisture outward through the fabric structure, and does not rot — maintaining sand containment and barrier structural integrity in rain, snow, mud, and sustained wet conditions without fabric degradation.
Standard Unit Dimensions: 120 × 120 cm per basket unit. Sand capacity per unit: 2 to 2.5 tons. Available in accordion-type accordion folding configuration for linked barrier wall construction and single unit format. Custom dimensions are available for project-specific requirements.
KEY FEATURES
Bulletproof & Explosion-Proof — Shrapnel Containment
The sand-filled gabion basket stops direct bullet fire and absorbs explosion blast pressure and shrapnel fragments — with shrapnel pieces remaining stuck in the sand mass rather than passing through to the protected side. The sand fill provides the ballistic and blast attenuation mass, while the geotextile fabric and wire mesh contain the sand under blast loading conditions. This protection combination is more durable than concrete blocks in blast scenarios — the sand barrier absorbs and contains energy without the secondary fragmentation hazard of concrete, which distributes high-velocity concrete fragments during an explosion event. Only sand particles scatter during a direct blast hit, with no secondary fragmentation danger to personnel behind the barrier.
Safer Than Concrete — No Secondary Fragmentation
A critical operational advantage of the sand-filled gabion barrier over concrete block barriers is the complete absence of secondary concrete fragmentation during explosion events. Concrete blocks distribute high-velocity concrete shrapnel during blast loading that creates additional casualty risk beyond the primary explosion — the gabion sand barrier eliminates this secondary hazard entirely, with only sand particles scattering during a direct blast impact.
Accordion-Type Folding — Rapid Field Deployment
The accordion-type collapsible design allows the gabion basket to be transported in a flat, compact configuration and expanded accordion-style directly in the field without tools or mechanical assistance. Once expanded and positioned, sand fill is added to complete the barrier unit. This rapid deployment sequence — transport collapsed, open in field, fill with sand — allows large perimeter protection walls, safe zones, and force protection positions to be established in hours rather than days.
Cost-Effective — Cheapest Barrier Protection System
The gabion basket barrier is the most cost-effective barrier protection system available for creating a protection wall against ballistic and blast threats. The low material cost, simple manufacture, and field-fillable design using locally sourced sand eliminate the high transport cost of pre-weighted barrier systems — making it the preferred solution for rapid force protection at scale in military operations and emergency security deployments.
4mm Galvanized Stainless Steel Wire — Zero Corrosion
All wire and connection components are manufactured from 4mm galvanized stainless steel — providing complete corrosion resistance in all weather conditions including rain, snow, mud, salt spray, and sustained moisture exposure. Zero corrosion ensures that the wire mesh maintains its structural integrity throughout the 2-year guaranteed service life and beyond, without requiring corrosion treatment or replacement of individual wire components.
UV-Protected Geotextile Fabric — All-Weather Sand Retention
The special UV-protected brown geotextile fabric liner prevents sand outflow through the wire mesh under all weather conditions, drains water and moisture outward without retaining water in the sand mass, and resists rot and degradation in sustained wet, muddy, and UV-exposed field deployment conditions. The fabric is specifically engineered for military and flood control field deployment environments where conventional fabric materials would degrade rapidly.
Project-Specific Sand Selection
Normal sand is not used in Madoors USA gabion basket barriers — the sand characteristics and quality are selected specifically for the region and project where the barrier will be deployed, ensuring maximum protective performance from the fill material in the specific soil and particle size conditions of each deployment location.
Custom Sizes Available
Standard 120 × 120 cm dimensions cover the most common force protection and flood control barrier height requirements. Custom sizes are available for project-specific wall height, section width, and stacking configuration requirements — allowing the gabion barrier system to be precisely specified for any perimeter protection or flood levee geometry.
Flood Barrier Application
In addition to military and security applications, the gabion basket barrier's original design application — flood and erosion control — remains a primary use. The sand-filled wire mesh basket provides an effective temporary to semi-permanent flood levee at river banks, coastal areas, road approaches, and property perimeters — rapidly deployable before anticipated flood events and relocatable after the flood risk passes.
2-Year Guarantee — Proven Global Track Record
All Madoors USA gabion basket barrier systems carry a 2-year guarantee, backed by a proven track record of military and civilian deployment across multiple continents and operational environments — including extensive use in Iraq and Afghanistan military operations and flood control programs worldwide.
ASSEMBLY & DEPLOYMENT SEQUENCE
Transport to Site in Collapsed Configuration
Accordion-type gabion basket units are transported to the deployment location in their flat, collapsed configuration — multiple units per vehicle load due to the compact collapsed dimensions. The lightweight collapsed state allows rapid logistics to remote forward positions and flood-threatened locations without heavy transport equipment.
Positioning & Accordion Expansion
Gabion basket units are positioned at the specified barrier line location and expanded accordion-style to their full 120 × 120 cm deployed dimensions. No tools or mechanical assistance are required for expansion — the accordion spring system deploys the basket to full size manually.
Geotextile Fabric Verification
The UV-protected geotextile fabric liner is verified as correctly positioned within the expanded wire mesh basket before sand filling commences, ensuring complete fabric coverage of all basket interior surfaces to prevent sand outflow through the mesh.
Sand Filling
Locally sourced sand — selected for the specific region and project particle size requirements — is filled into the expanded gabion basket to the specified fill level. Each unit holds 2 to 2.5 tons of sand when fully filled. Sand filling is completed by hand, loader, or conveyor equipment depending on available field resources.
Multi-Unit Wall Configuration Assembly
For perimeter wall configurations, additional units are positioned adjacent to and on top of the filled units to build the required wall height and length. Multi-tier stacking creates walls of 2.4 meters, 3.6 meters, or greater height depending on the number of stacked tiers. Adjacent unit connections are secured using the spring connector system.
Barrier Line Completion & Inspection
The completed barrier line is inspected for full sand fill level, fabric integrity, wire mesh condition, and unit-to-unit connection security. Any gaps in the barrier line requiring additional units are identified and filled. The completed barrier is immediately operational as a ballistic and blast protection wall or flood levee.
