Electromechanical Automatic Spike Barrier

The Madoors USA Electromechanical Automatic Spike Barrier — Tyre Killer — is a PLC-controlled, motorized rising steel spike system engineered as one of the highest-security vehicle access control solutions available, physically stopping unauthorized vehicles by immediately puncturing and deflating their tires on contact — rendering the vehicle immobile within a few meters of the barrier position. Designed for both supervised and unsupervised one-way vehicular access control at high-security premises, the Madoors USA tyre killer rises from flush ground level in 2 to 3 seconds on command and retracts completely into the casing on authorized clearance — providing a reliable, durable, and tamper-resistant vehicle access control system for parkades, shopping malls, residential estates, office parks, factories, warehouses, and high-security installations worldwide.

Each spike is connected to its own independent return mechanism, preventing any accomplice from manually depressing individual spikes by foot — ensuring that the full spike array remains deployed regardless of attempts to defeat the barrier by physical contact with individual elements. PLC control integrates with card readers, biometric readers, radio controls, key switches, loop detectors, photocells, flashing lights, and traffic signal lights, with time-delay arming adjustable between 0 and 60 seconds.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The Madoors USA Electromechanical Automatic Spike Barrier is manufactured from A3 steel with steel blade construction in a speed bump profile form factor — providing a low-profile ground-level housing in the retracted position and a fully risen spike array in the deployed position. The drive unit is positioned at one end of the tyre killer assembly, standing above ground level and forming a complete assembly with the body — this drive unit placement achieves smooth motion transmission across the full spike array width and minimizes the effect of external environmental factors on the drive mechanism.

All spike jaws move simultaneously — driven by a single coordinated drive mechanism — ensuring that the full spike array rises and retracts as one unified movement without individual spikes remaining in different positions that could create partial protection gaps or inconsistent tire puncture performance. UP and DOWN movement cycle time is 2 to 3 seconds for the complete spike array travel.

PLC control manages all tyre killer functions — up command, down command, time-delay arming from 0 to 60 seconds, and all access control and safety system integrations. The PLC accepts inputs from card readers, biometric readers (fingerprint and other types), radio remote controls, on/off switches, and key switches. Safety accessories including loop detectors, photocells, flashing lights, and red/green traffic signal lights integrate directly into the control electronics.

The system is designed for both interior and exterior installation and severe operating conditions — providing reliable operation across the full range of environmental conditions encountered at outdoor security access control points including temperature extremes, precipitation, and contamination.

KEY FEATURES
Immediate Tire Puncture — Vehicle Stopped Within Meters
When an unauthorized vehicle drives over the raised spike array, the rising steel spikes immediately puncture and deflate the vehicle's tires — rendering the vehicle immobile within a few meters of the barrier position. This immediate tire destruction response eliminates the ability of an unauthorized vehicle to continue through the security perimeter under its own power, regardless of vehicle speed, weight, or driver intent. The vehicle is physically stopped without requiring any secondary barrier or intervention.

Independent Return Mechanism Per Spike — Tamper Resistant
Each spike is connected to its own individual return mechanism — preventing any accomplice from manually depressing individual spikes by foot or with a hand tool to create a gap in the spike array that a vehicle could pass through without tire puncture. The independent return mechanism on each spike ensures that all spikes return to the fully deployed position immediately after any downward force is removed, making the barrier tamper-resistant against coordinated ground-level defeat attempts.

Simultaneous Jaw Movement — Complete Spike Array Deployment
All spike jaws move simultaneously under the single coordinated drive mechanism, ensuring that the complete spike array rises and retracts as a unified movement — with no individual spikes leading or lagging that would create inconsistent tire contact timing or partial coverage gaps during the deployment cycle.

2 to 3 Second UP/DOWN Cycle — Rapid Deployment
The 2 to 3 second rise and retract cycle provides rapid barrier deployment and clearance — fast enough to respond to unauthorized vehicle approach after authorization denial at the access control point and fast enough to clear the barrier promptly for authorized vehicles following credential verification, minimizing vehicle queuing at the access point.

0 to 60 Second Time-Delay Arming
The time-delay arming function allows the tyre killer to be programmed to rise automatically a specified time after an authorized vehicle has passed over it — providing unsupervised one-way access control without requiring an operator to manually command the barrier up after each authorized vehicle pass. The 0 to 60 second adjustable delay accommodates different vehicle lengths and convoy spacings to allow complete vehicle clearance before the spikes rise.

PLC Control — Universal Access Control Integration
The PLC controller integrates with the complete range of access control devices — card readers, biometric readers, radio remote controls, on/off switches, and key switches — providing universal compatibility with any existing or new access control infrastructure. The PLC also manages all safety accessory inputs and the time-delay arming function from a single integrated control platform.

Drive Unit Above Ground Level — Smooth Transmission & Environmental Protection
The drive unit is positioned at one end of the tyre killer assembly above ground level, forming a complete assembly with the body rather than being buried below grade. This above-ground placement achieves smooth, consistent motion transmission to all spikes across the full array width while minimizing the exposure of drive mechanism components to groundwater, debris, and chemical contamination that affect below-grade drive units in outdoor access control installations.

A3 Steel & Steel Blade Construction — Heavy Duty Durability
A3 steel construction with steel blade spike elements in a speed bump profile provides the structural mass, surface hardness, and impact resistance required for heavy-duty vehicle access control applications — accommodating the weight and tire contact forces of trucks, trailers, and heavy goods vehicles as well as standard passenger cars across the full range of commercial and industrial access control applications.

Ideal for One-Way Unsupervised Access Control
The tyre killer is specifically designed for unsupervised one-way vehicular access — where vehicles are authorized to exit freely in one direction over the retracted spike array while entry from the opposite direction is controlled by the raised spikes. This one-way configuration is the standard application for parking facility exits, residential estate vehicle gates, and commercial facility service entrances where controlled entry and free exit are simultaneously required.

Interior & Exterior Installation — Severe Conditions
The system is designed for both interior and exterior installation across severe operating conditions — providing reliable spike deployment performance in the full range of environmental conditions encountered at outdoor access control points, including temperature extremes, rain, standing water, ice, and contamination from vehicle fluids and road debris.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION SEQUENCE
Site Assessment & Configuration
Installation location, road width, required barrier length, directional flow requirement — one-way or two-way controlled — time-delay arming specification, and access control interface devices are confirmed. Interior or exterior installation and environmental condition rating are confirmed.

Foundation Recess Preparation
The installation recess is cut or formed in the road or floor surface to the specified dimensions for the barrier casing. Drainage outlet and drainage pump conduit routing are installed in the recess. Electrical conduit for power supply, control wiring, and inductive loop detector cable is installed during recess preparation.

Barrier Casing & Drive Unit Installation
The A3 steel barrier casing and above-ground drive unit assembly are installed in the prepared recess. Casing level and flush alignment with the surrounding road surface in the retracted position are verified. Drive unit structural connection to the casing and drive mechanism engagement with the full spike jaw array are verified.

Electrical & PLC Connection
Mains electrical supply is connected to the drive unit and PLC panel. All control wiring — access control interfaces, safety photocells, loop detector, and traffic light connections — is completed. PLC panel is powered and initialized.

PLC Programming & Time-Delay Arming Calibration
PLC program is configured for the specific access control protocol — authorized up/down command logic, time-delay arming duration, and all access control interface inputs. Time-delay arming is set to the specified 0 to 60 second value for the installation application.

Accessory Installation & Integration
Traffic lights, remote control receivers, safety photocells, loop detectors, card readers, and drainage pump are installed at the specified positions and connected to the PLC control system. All accessory functions are tested and verified for correct response to PLC commands and sensor inputs.

Independent Return Mechanism Verification
Each spike's independent return mechanism is tested for positive return to the fully deployed position after manual downward force is applied and released — confirming that no spike can be held down by foot or hand pressure against the return mechanism spring force.

Full Operational Testing & Handover
Complete operational testing across all UP/DOWN command inputs, time-delay arming, safety photocell response, loop detector detection, traffic light sequencing, and remote control functions is conducted. Simultaneous jaw movement across the full spike array is verified for all deployed spikes rising and retracting together. Installation handover documentation is completed.
