The Madoors USA ATX-2000 Series ATEX Certified Ex-Proof Roller Shutter Door is an automatic roller shutter door system designed, manufactured, and rigorously tested for installation in explosive atmosphere environments — classified zones where combustible dust, mists, flammable gases, or vapors create a risk of explosion that requires all equipment, whether electrical or mechanical, to meet ATEX certification standards. Compliant with both the ATEX Workplace Directive and the ATEX Equipment Directive — the two European regulatory frameworks setting minimum requirements for the protection of personnel and facilities at risk from explosive atmospheres — the ATX-2000 series provides industrial facilities with a certified, project-specific automatic roller shutter door solution that minimizes blast risk at entrance and internal opening points within hazardous classified zones.
Every ATX-2000 series installation is project-specific in specification. Madoors USA brings extensive design, manufacturing, and installation experience across a wide range of ATEX-regulated industries, and works with each client to develop the safest and most cost-effective solution for their specific hazardous zone classification, opening dimensions, and operational requirements — including minimizing costs by installing control equipment outside classified zones wherever the installation geometry allows. A technical file is lodged with Baseefa supporting regulatory compliance for every installation.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The ATX-2000 Series ATEX Certified Roller Shutter Door is rated and tested to conform with ATEX Equipment Directive requirements for equipment operating in explosive atmosphere classified zones. ATEX zones covered by the ATX-2000 series include gas and vapor explosive atmosphere zones — Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 — and combustible dust explosive atmosphere zones — Zone 20, Zone 21, and Zone 22 — with the specific model and component specification determined on a project basis by the confirmed zone classification of the installation location.
All ATX-2000 series components — including the roller shutter curtain, guide tracks, barrel and spring assembly, motor drive, electrical control system, wiring, switches, and sensors — are specified, manufactured, and tested to eliminate ignition sources within the classified zone. This covers the elimination of static electrical discharge from the shutter curtain, electrical arcing from drive and control components, mechanical impact sparking from shutter operation, and surface temperatures exceeding the ignition temperature of the surrounding explosive atmosphere.
The ATX-2000 series specification is determined on a project-by-project basis, reflecting the fact that explosive atmosphere zone classifications, hazardous substance types, opening dimensions, operational cycle requirements, and control system architecture vary significantly between industrial facilities and between different zones within the same facility. Madoors USA designs each ATX-2000 installation to the confirmed ATEX zone classification and operational requirements of the specific project, lodging a technical compliance file with Baseefa for each installation to support regulatory conformity documentation.
Where installation geometry permits, Madoors USA positions control equipment outside the classified hazardous zone boundary, reducing the quantity of Ex-proof certified electrical components required within the zone and lowering the total installed cost of the ATEX door system without compromising safety performance or regulatory compliance.
KEY FEATURES
ATEX Workplace & Equipment Directive Compliance
The ATX-2000 series complies with both the ATEX Workplace Directive and the ATEX Equipment Directive — the two European regulatory frameworks governing explosive atmosphere protection. The Workplace Directive establishes requirements for the classification of hazardous zones and the protection of workers within them. The Equipment Directive establishes the conformity requirements for all equipment — electrical and mechanical — installed and operated within classified zones. ATX-2000 series compliance with both directives provides facilities with comprehensive regulatory coverage across their ATEX obligations.
Baseefa Technical File — Regulatory Compliance Support
A technical file is lodged with Baseefa — a UK-accredited ATEX certification body — for every ATX-2000 series installation, supporting the facility's regulatory compliance documentation and providing independently backed conformity evidence for regulatory inspection, insurance underwriting, and operating license requirements.
Rigorous Component Testing — Conformance Verified
All ATX-2000 series door components and assemblies are rigorously tested to verify conformance with ATEX certification requirements before installation. Testing confirms that the complete door system — not just individual components in isolation — performs within ATEX safety parameters under the operational conditions of the specific installation. Certification documentation confirming fitness for purpose and providing the information required for safe operation is supplied with every installation.
Project-Specific Specification
Every ATX-2000 series installation is designed to a project-specific specification reflecting the confirmed ATEX zone classification, hazardous substance type, opening dimensions, operational cycle requirements, and site-specific installation constraints of each individual project. No standard off-the-shelf specification is applied across different installations — each system is engineered from the confirmed project parameters to ensure ATEX compliance at the specific installation location.
Explosive Atmosphere Coverage — Gas, Vapor, Mist & Dust
The ATX-2000 series is designed for the full range of explosive atmosphere types encountered in industrial facilities: flammable gases and vapors — including those generated by spray painting, solvent handling, chemical processing, and fuel storage operations — and combustible dusts — including grain, flour, pharmaceutical, chemical, and metal dusts that form explosive atmospheres in grain elevators, flour mills, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and metalworking facilities.
Ignition Source Elimination — Electrical & Mechanical
ATEX certification of the ATX-2000 series covers the elimination of all potential ignition sources associated with the roller shutter door system — including static electrical discharge from the shutter curtain material, electrical arcing from motor, control, and switching components, mechanical impact and friction sparking from shutter curtain, guide track, and hardware operation, and surface temperature exceedance of the ignition temperature classification applicable to the specific hazardous substance present at the installation location.
Control Equipment Positioned Outside Classified Zones
Where installation geometry allows, Madoors USA positions the ATX-2000 series control equipment outside the ATEX classified zone boundary, reducing the quantity of Ex-proof certified electrical components required within the hazardous zone. This approach lowers the total installed cost of the ATEX roller shutter door system while maintaining full ATEX compliance and safety performance — a cost optimization approach that reflects Madoors USA's commitment to delivering the most cost-effective compliant solution for each project.
Automatic Roller Shutter Operation
The ATX-2000 series operates as an automatic roller shutter, with the curtain coiling onto the overhead barrel on opening and uncoiling on closing — providing large-format clear opening dimensions for vehicle, forklift, and material movement in active industrial production and processing environments, with automated operation minimizing the time the entrance remains open and reducing the exchange of explosive atmosphere between classified and non-classified zones during each operational cycle.
Wide Industry Experience
Madoors USA has designed, manufactured, and installed ATEX certified roller shutter doors across a wide range of ATEX-regulated industries, providing project teams with the benefit of direct experience with the specific installation challenges, zone classification requirements, and operational constraints encountered in petrochemical, chemical processing, pharmaceutical, grain handling, paint finishing, and mining explosive atmosphere environments.
Cost-Effective Solution Design
Madoors USA approaches each ATX-2000 project with the objective of delivering the safest and most cost-effective ATEX compliant solution, advising clients on component positioning, zone boundary management, and specification optimization strategies that minimize installed cost without compromising safety performance or regulatory compliance.
ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION SEQUENCE
Hazardous Zone Classification Confirmation & Project Specification
The ATEX zone classification of the installation location is confirmed — Zone 0, 1, or 2 for gas and vapor, or Zone 20, 21, or 22 for combustible dust. The hazardous substance type and its ignition temperature classification are confirmed. Project-specific ATX-2000 series specification is developed — covering curtain material, guide track specification, motor and drive system, control system architecture, and control equipment positioning relative to the zone boundary. Technical file preparation for Baseefa lodgement is initiated.
Control Equipment Zone Positioning
The installation geometry is assessed to determine whether control equipment can be positioned outside the classified zone boundary. Where possible, control panel, isolator, and switching equipment is located outside the zone, with appropriately rated cable runs penetrating the zone boundary to the Ex-proof components within the classified area.
Structural Opening Preparation
The structural opening is prepared to the specified dimensions. Header clearance for the overhead barrel and curtain coil stack is verified. All electrical supply runs to the installation location within the classified zone are confirmed as appropriately rated and routed for the zone classification before installation commences.
Guide Track Installation
ATEX-compliant guide tracks are installed on both sides of the opening and secured to the structural wall. Track alignment, plumb, and parallel spacing are verified. Track surfaces and fixings are inspected for any mechanical impact or friction sparking risk during curtain operation.
Barrel, Spring & Curtain Assembly Installation
The barrel assembly is installed at the overhead position. The ATEX-compliant roller shutter curtain is wound onto the barrel and the bottom rail is set to the correct floor clearance. Curtain travel, tracking, and coil geometry are verified across the full open and close travel range.
Ex-Proof Motor & Drive Installation
The explosion-proof motor and drive system are installed at the barrel mounting position. All electrical connections within the classified zone are completed using ATEX-certified wiring methods, Ex-proof cable glands, certified junction boxes, and ATEX-rated termination hardware. No standard electrical fittings are used within the classified zone boundary.
Control System Connection & Commissioning
The control system is commissioned — with control panel positioned outside the zone where the installation allows. Door travel parameters, speed, limit positions, and safety system responses are programmed and verified. All electrical connections are inspected for correct ATEX-certified installation before power is applied.
ATEX Compliance Inspection & Baseefa Technical File Lodgement
A comprehensive ATEX compliance inspection is conducted across all installed components, wiring methods, enclosure integrity, and zone boundary penetrations. All installed component ATEX certification documentation is compiled. The technical file is lodged with Baseefa in support of regulatory compliance. Installation handover documentation — including the technical file reference, component certification schedule, and maintenance requirements — is provided to the facility.
