Madoors USA Ammunition Shelter Blast Dampers and Blast Valves are engineered protective systems designed to prevent blast waves, instantaneous pressure changes, and explosion overpressure from penetrating air intake channels, exhaust openings, and ventilation ducts into protected shelter spaces and critical facility interiors. Manufactured to military and civil defense standards, the Madoors USA blast damper and blast valve product range covers protection levels from 2 bar up to 100 bar, providing the appropriate blast protection specification for every application from industrial vapor cloud explosion protection through to hardened military shelter and civil defense bunker installations.
The complete product range includes the BSV-5000 Series Blast Valves for high blast resistance applications up to 100 bar, the BSV-1000 Series Blast Valves engineered for sustained multiple long-duration blast loads up to 11 bar, and the MDP-1000 fire resistant pressure relief damper for fire suppression system integration — allowing a complete blast and pressure protection solution for all air channel penetrations through the pressure protection line of any shelter or hardened facility to be specified from a single source.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Madoors USA blast dampers are designed to protect equipment and personnel against blasts and instantaneous pressure changes generated by industrial vapor cloud explosions, military ordnance detonation, and other high-energy explosive events. Typical protected building spaces include control and instrumentation rooms, electrical substations, civil defense shelters, military hardened shelters, and ammunition storage facilities. Blast dampers can be surface mounted to exterior walls and roof structures or duct mounted within ventilation system ductwork, providing installation flexibility for both new construction and retro-fit protection upgrades.
Blast valves are installed in every open air channel and duct penetrating the pressure protection line of the shelter, preventing blast wave transmission through the ventilation infrastructure into the protected interior. For hardened shelter construction, blast valves are installed into the wall prior to concrete casting, integrating the valve frame directly with the wall reinforcement structure to create a monolithic blast-resistant installation.
BSV-5000 Series Blast Valve The BSV-5000 Series Blast Valve is used as an air intake and exhaust valve in civil defense and military shelters. Specially designed for applications requiring high blast resistance combined with large ventilation capacity within minimum wall space, the BSV-5000 provides blast protection up to 100 bar — the highest protection level in the Madoors USA blast valve range. The compact wall space requirement of the BSV-5000 makes it the preferred specification for hardened shelter installations where wall penetration dimensions are structurally constrained.
BSV-1000 Series Blast Valve The BSV-1000 Series Blast Valve is used as an air intake and outlet valve in civil defense shelters, military shelters, and blast-protected industrial facilities. The BSV-1000 is designed and independently tested to withstand multiple long-duration blast loads with a peak reflected overpressure of 1,100 kPa — 11 bar — while retaining full functional ability after each blast event. The multiple blast load retention of full functional ability is the defining performance characteristic of the BSV-1000, making it suitable for facilities where repeated blast exposure across multiple detonation events must be survivable without valve replacement or repair.
KEY FEATURES
Blast Protection Range 2 Bar to 100 Bar
The Madoors USA blast valve range covers protection levels from 2 bar up to 100 bar across the BSV-1000 and BSV-5000 series, providing the appropriate blast resistance specification for every application from industrial explosion protection through to the most demanding military hardened shelter requirements.
BSV-5000 — Up to 100 Bar Protection
The BSV-5000 Series provides blast protection up to 100 bar — the highest available protection level in the Madoors USA range — combined with large ventilation capacity in a minimum wall space form factor. This combination makes the BSV-5000 the specified solution for military hardened shelters and civil defense installations where maximum blast resistance and structural efficiency are simultaneously required.
BSV-1000 — Multiple Long-Duration Blast Load Resistance
The BSV-1000 is designed and tested to withstand multiple long-duration blast loads at a peak reflected overpressure of 1,100 kPa (11 bar) while retaining full functional ability after each event. This repeated blast survivability without loss of function is critical for facilities subject to sustained or repeated attack rather than a single detonation event.
Pre-Cast Wall Integration
Blast valves for hardened shelter construction are installed into the wall prior to concrete casting, integrating the valve frame directly with the wall reinforcement steel. This creates a monolithic connection between the valve frame and the surrounding reinforced concrete structure, eliminating the interface weakness present in post-cast surface-mounted installations and maximizing the structural integrity of the blast-resistant wall assembly at the penetration point.
Full Air Channel & Duct Penetration Coverage
Blast valves are installed in every open air channel and duct penetrating the pressure protection line of the shelter — covering air intake, exhaust, and ventilation duct penetrations without exception. This complete coverage approach ensures that no unprotected air channel penetration exists through the blast protection envelope of the shelter.
Surface Mount & Duct Mount Installation Options
Blast dampers are available in surface-mounted configuration for exterior wall and roof structure installation, and duct-mounted configuration for integration within ventilation system ductwork. This installation flexibility supports both new construction projects and retro-fit protection upgrades to existing facilities.
Fire Suppression System Integration — MDP-1000
When coupled with the Madoors USA MDP-1000 fire resistant pressure relief damper, the blast damper system extends its protection capability to fire suppression system air channels — providing combined blast overpressure and fire-resistant pressure relief protection for facilities where both explosion and fire hazards are present simultaneously.
Industrial Vapor Cloud Explosion Protection
Blast dampers are specifically engineered for the protection of control and instrumentation rooms, electrical substations, and other critical facility spaces against the instantaneous pressure changes and blast loading generated by industrial vapor cloud explosions — the primary explosion hazard in petrochemical, oil and gas, chemical processing, and industrial manufacturing environments.
Control Room & Substation Protection
Typical protected building spaces include control and instrumentation rooms and electrical substations — the most critical operational facilities within industrial plants and military installations, where personnel and equipment protection against blast overpressure is a primary safety requirement.

ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION SEQUENCE
Shelter Design & Blast Protection Line Identification
The pressure protection line of the shelter or facility is defined in the structural engineering design. All air channel and duct penetrations through the pressure protection line are identified and catalogued. Blast valve model selection — BSV-5000 or BSV-1000 — is made for each penetration based on the required protection level and ventilation capacity requirements.
Pre-Cast Installation — Hardened Shelter Walls
For hardened reinforced concrete shelter construction, blast valve frames are positioned within the formwork at each designated wall penetration location prior to concrete casting. Valve frames are connected to the wall reinforcement steel, integrating the valve frame into the structural reinforcement network. Concrete is then cast around the valve frames, creating a monolithic blast-resistant wall assembly at each penetration.
Surface Mount Installation — Existing Walls & Retro-Fit
For surface mounting to exterior walls or roof structures, penetration openings are prepared to the specified dimensions. Blast damper or valve units are mounted to the exterior wall or roof surface and anchored to the structural substrate in accordance with the specified mounting arrangement.
Duct Mount Installation
For duct-mounted blast damper applications, damper units are integrated into the ventilation ductwork at the specified positions within the duct run, secured and sealed to the duct assembly.
MDP-1000 Integration (Fire Suppression Applications)
Where fire suppression system protection is required, MDP-1000 fire resistant pressure relief dampers are coupled with the blast damper units at the relevant air channel penetrations, completing the combined blast and fire protection assembly.
Functional Testing & Verification
Valve and damper operation is tested and verified across all installed units. Ventilation airflow capacity through open valve positions is confirmed against design requirements. Pre-cast installation integrity at each wall penetration is inspected. Full documentation of installed units, positions, and test results is compiled for the project record.
